The Village of Alix is situated on Hwy 12 between Stettler and Lacombe with a population of 850 people.  Our group in Alix fundraises all year round through events such as barbeques and 50/50 raffles, funds raised are then reinvested in the communities where we live, work and play through the Western Communities Foundations core programs.

To date the Alix branch has donated over $27,000 back to organizations in their community such as Friends of Alix Mac Society, Alix Mac Graduating class, Clive Public Library and many bursaries awarded to deserving students.

With a population of 2,025, Bow Island is a quiet town in the middle of a very diverse agricultural area.  Each year, our team participates in numerous fundraising initiatives including the annual National Walk to Support the Cause and our customer appreciation BBQ. To date the Bow Island branch has donated over $27,000 to the community through organizations such as the Bow Island Library, Bow Island Health – Tree of Hope and Bow Island Youth Centre.

With most of our team living right here in the community, the Cochrane branch truly embodies the slogan “We care because we live here.” Our entire team is always eager to come up with new and exciting ways to give back to the community. From the Cochrane Boys and Girls Club to the Seniors on the Bow Society, we have supported a number of causes and charities throughout the years investing over $24,000 year to date through the Western Communities Foundation core programs. Cold Lake is situated in Alberta’s Lakeland district, 300 km northeast of Edmonton near the Alberta-Saskatchewan provincial border.   We have a population of approximately 16,000 people. Western Financial Group opened its doors in 2008 as a new location and has had great success in the community. The Western Communities Foundation has helped us do many wonderful things in our community through their 4 core programs. To date the Cold Lake branch has donated over $15,000 back to the community supporting organizations including Lakeland Humane Society, Hearts for Healthcare LTD and annual bursaries to many well-deserving students.

DMW Insurance has been involved in fundraising for various charities for many years. For the past 12 years we have been participating in the Scotiabank Pro Am to raise funds for Baycrest. Baycrest is a world-renowned facility specializing in Alzheimer’s Research.

The Pro Am lets recreational players like Alex share the ice with NHL Alumni, such as Lanny McDonald and Darryl Sittler. 2020 was Alex’s 12th year of participation in the tournament, and his team has raised over $1M to date.

Situated in the heart of the Canadian Badlands, Drumheller is home to dinosaurs, coal from days gone by, and unparalleled scenery. With a population of 10,000 Drumheller and surrounding area has a vibrant business community based, among other things, on agriculture, tourism, and natural gas and oil.  We have been fortunate enough to reinvest over $39,000 back into our community through the Western Communities Foundation. In 2011, Drumheller made a major contribution to its citizens by helping to construct the Badlands Community Facility.  An all-in-one sports, recreation and meeting area.  The BCF boast a brand new library, work-out facility, walking/running track, indoor fitness centre, indoor play centre, small accessible meeting rooms and a large banquet facility.  Through the generosity of the WCF – we were able to contribute $25,000 over 5 years to this project. We are truly proud to be part of this lasting legacy for generations to come.

In 2020 the Pembroke team will be raising money for the Robbie Dean Family Counselling Centre. This is a local charity in our area that services individuals in distress, crisis, and mental health. They have helped many people in the Renfrew County area and we at Western want to help this fantastic centre with funding. Funding from the government is limited to the Robbie Dean Centre and this organization has been extremely benifitial and is needed in our community.

In 2020 the Petawawa office will be raising money for the Petawawa Centennial Family Health Centre (PCFHC). The PCFHC is located in the heart of Petawawa and its mission is to provide a "broad range of primary health care and health promotion services to protect, preserve and promote the health and well being of all residents of the Town of Petawawa and area"

We chose this as the beneficiary for our fundraising because we feel that this is a critical component in our community and we want to be able to help fulfill their needs to better serve the community of Petawawa and surrounding area.

Elkford is located in the beautiful Elk Valley, just 20 minutes north of Sparwood, BC. Our district’s motto is “Wild at Heart.” Western Financial Group is proud to be a part of the Elkford community. Each year, our team participates in numerous fundraising initiatives. Western Financial Groups Fraser Lake Branch is a small office of 3 employees located in Northern BC. We serve a community of approximately 3,500 residence with surrounding area. We are active participants in Western Communities Foundation’s campaigns which help us give back to our community through annual bursaries for local high school graduates as well as infrastructure grants to other establishments in the community. We love that the Foundation allows us to give back to our community and provides a strong base for great customer relationships. To date the Fraser Lake branch has donated over $11,000 to the community through annual bursaries to many well-deserving students.

It is located at the intersection of Highway 43 and Highway 40 approximately 456km Northwest of Edmonton. The city is surrounded by the County of Grande Prairie No. 1. Since becoming part of the Western Family, the Grande Prairie office has awarded over $5000 back to the community supporting organizations and annual bursaries to many well-deserving students.

A few of us in the office got the opportunity to attend the Annual World Professional Chuck wagon Races at the Grande Prairie Stampede in 2016. Being in that atmosphere and seeing all the people from all over our community come together to support each other had an amazing effect on our community spirit. We recently started a social committee to brainstorm new and creative ways to get out and get more involved in our community as we are driven to access more of the great benefits that the Western Communities Foundation has to offer. The Mayerthorpe branch was purchased by Western Financial Group in 2001, we are a small community located between Edmonton and Whitecourt with a population of approximately 1,400 people.  Every year we strive to be a part of the community by making our presence known. To date, we have donated over $24,000 to our community through the Western Community Foundations core programs. The Mayerthorpe branch has been lucky enough to take part in many activities such as sponsoring Apples for Everyone at the local elementary school, the pancake breakfast for the AG Fair, gift bags for all attendees of the Rural Women’s Conference, the Christmas Light-up and parade along with anything else our community puts on. We hope to grow our involvement even more in the coming years!

The City of Nanaimo boasts a population of more than 131,000 people in Greater Nanaimo and its outlying areas. Our Western branch has always sought to give back and reinforce the culture that community is everything. Through fundraising endeavors and Western Communities Foundation four core programs. To date the Prince George branch has donated over $62,000 back to the community through organizations such as Prince George Minor Football, Prince George Minor Hockey, Prince George Spruce Kings Hockey Club, Hospice House Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Two Rivers Crime Prevention Society, SPCA and annual bursaries to many well-deserving students.
