Wyatt Dowling and partners support Winnipeg food bank
Oct. 26, 2020
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our Wyatt Dowling Insurance Brokers branches, in conjunction with our business insurance experts, continued to assist Winnipeg Harvest in keeping local families fed.
Via our Western Financial Group Communities Foundation, Wyatt Dowling, and our Western Financial Group Insurance Solutions (GIS) team, gifted a combined $2,500 to the food security non-profit in 2020.
A previous donation rounds our contribution to $3,500 — each dollar putting food on tables.
“We are so thankful for Western’s generous gift of $3,500,” Keren Taylor-Hughes, CEO of Winnipeg Harvest, said. “COVID-19 has sent more Manitobans to food banks than hospitals.”
“The road to recovery is long.”
Winnipeg Harvest typically provides food aid to 70,000 Manitobans each month, but since the pandemic, the organization expects to see an additional 20,000 people looking for food.
Facing an 80 per cent reduction in donations, the not-for-profit has begun to buy food. This has been an unprecedented step, something the organization has never done since launching in 1985.
“This donation will have a huge impact, providing more than 1,000 meals to Manitobans in need — hungry kids, hardworking families and adults struggling to get through this pandemic,” she said.
Taking care of the communities we serve remains one of our Communities Foundations’ three pillars. Western previously announced the Community Food & Nutrition Emergency Fund.
By way of this program, our experts committed to providing $75,000 to help registered organizations in the communities we serve supply 225,000 meals to Canadians requiring a hand up.
Along with our experts at GIS, our Wyatt Dowling team is humbled to provide resources to assist not-for-profits like Winnipeg Harvest help residents by way of critical food programming.
We are grateful for your amazing contributions to our communities.
