Community champion Linda Holmes recalls give back moments
Oct. 5, 2020
To this day, we are ecstatic that our people are among our greatest champions. Their support for our charitable arm, the Western Financial Group Communities Foundation, has been second to none.
We’d like to introduce you to Linda Holmes, Western’s High River branch manager. One of her proudest moments spent with the company came while serving the community through the Foundation.
Our registered charity has three pillars of giving, including developing future leaders via student bursaries, strengthening our community connection points and serving during times of crisis.
Holmes remembers being there for High River following the 2013 floods that affected southern Alberta.
“The Foundation provided over $170,000 in flood relief funding to pay for local children’s sports registration,” she said, recalling how it came as a complete surprise to many families.
This was, Holmes said, an incredibly moving experience and one she’ll never forget.
Within the High River area, numerous charities have received support via the Foundation, including Food for Thought, the Salvation Army foodbank/holiday toy drive and Rowan House Emergency Shelter.
Recently, we’ve assisted the creation of the High River Pump Track through an infrastructure grant, and supported Foothills Inclusion, Literacy for Life and the High River and District Healthcare Foundation etc.
