Western Financial Group is proud to be part of the Fernie community. Each year, our team participates in an annual Support the Cause walk. Money raised from Support the Cause is reinvested in the communities where we live, work and play through the Western Communities Foundation core programs. These programs focus on public health, public housing, education, and recreation.
This year, Western Financial Group is participating in its 13th Annual Support the Cause Walk on Wednesday, May 31th.
We will be walking 5km to help raise money for the Western Communities Foundation—a non-profit organization Western Financial Group founded to support public health, public housing, education and recreation causes in our local communities across western Canada. This includes:
Providing community infrastructure grants to support renovations or construction of community facilities that have been identified by Western staff. This includes $5,000 to Fernie Trails Alliance & $5,000 to The Fernie Family Housing Society for renovations to The Tom Uphill Manor.
Providing local graduating high school students with an opportunity to continue their education with Western’s Exceptional Achievement & Bursary Award. This award recognizes young adults who have displayed outstanding community/school spirit, demonstrated inspirational conduct, or have overcome adversity. Previous award recipients from Fernie Secondary School include Kyra Kallies (2014), Shacarra Orr (2015) & Iralyn Magliocco (2016).
Providing support to local charities and/or community initiatives that help make a positive impact in our community. This includes supporting the Fernie Women’s Resource Center, Fernie Friends for Friends, Emily Brydon Youth Foundation and The Elk Valley Critical Incident Response Team.
